What is den den daiko?

Den den daiko is a traditional Japanese hand drum made of wood and animal skin. It is often used in festivals and parades in Japan to make a loud, rhythmic beat. The traditional den den daiko is made of two wooden drums, one with a larger diameter than the other. The smaller drum is attached to the larger one with ropes and has animal skin stretched over its surface. The player holds the larger drum with one hand and strikes the smaller drum with a wooden drumstick held in the other hand. The den den daiko is said to have originated in the Edo period (1603-1868) and was used as a means of communication between distant villages. Today, it is still an important part of Japanese culture and is often played in traditional music performances.
